Ergonomic Seating

The dedication to old-fashioned craftsmanship has been combined by the people who are Imperial with modern day innovation with the results achieving a pew scientifically human engineered for greater comfort... second to none!

Our innovative pew seating encompasses the many aspects of seating comfort which include human engineering and ergonomics. Furthermore, our pews are engineered with consideration for the measurements of the human body and its proportions. We believe the results of our studies bring to you church pew comfort you will find unmatched.

ERGONOMIC SEATING

Lumbar Support

Studies on seating define comfort as the absence of discomfort. The primary determining factor in back comfort is the contour of the spine. The spine is a flexibly segmented column of bone divided into 25 parts. The most important of these are the five in the lower portion of the back called the lumbar area. These segments provide nearly all back movement. When seated the lumbar area is placed in an unnatural curvature and can become uncomfortable. Imperial has developed a lumbar cushion to conform to and support the normal body curvature in this area. It properly positions the upper body and lumbar support to significantly add to its comfort.

Comfort Zone

A comfort zone is created by the pocket formed between the lumbar support and our unique contoured foam seat. The Imperial pew seat is contoured and contributes dramatically to its comfort and the feel of our deep seat. The buttock area is one of the two most critical points in determining seat comfort. The use of high density, firm polyfoam here prevents stress and fatigue in the hip muscles. The other important area of the seat is the area underneath the thighs. Too much pressure in this region reduces the blood circulation to the legs, creating fatigue and discomfort. The Imperial seat achieves soft support in this region for reduced pressure by the addition of an extra layer of a softer polyfoam in this area. The contour of the seat at this point is the highest and thus the foam is wrapped around the front of the seat in a waterfall contour to relieve pressure and help improve circulation in the thigh area as well as provide a soft seat nosing to facilitate comfortable movement between rows of pews. This unique comfort zone cradles the body, aligning thighs, buttocks, and upper body for ultimate comfort.

Body Weight

The pew back supports only 4% of the occupant's weight and acts primarily as a stabilizer. To provide proper stability, the seat to back angle should be in a range from 95 to 105 degrees. The Imperial pew has an angle of 100 degrees. This proper angle coupled with the support from the lumbar cushion in the back as well as the scientifically designed contoured cushioned seat eliminates pressure in the critical comfort zones to deliver seating comfort never experienced in a church pew before.
